On October 3, 2018, the Council of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham launched the Borough Data Explorer, a new online platform hosting the Borough’s new Social Progress Index, along with other data relevant to the Borough manifesto. The Barking & Dagenham index is the first of its kind: an application of the SPI framework and methodology at the ward level.
According to Social Progress Imperative CEO Michael Green, “The council have pioneered the use of administrative data with other data to bring the comparative measure of social progress to a local level. [They] took the innovation further and visualised the work in their new Borough Data Explorer which will support policy and programme design, and for dialogue between the council, residents and stakeholders.”
The Borough of Barking & Dagenham is leading the way in using the Social Progress Index to use granular local data to foster dialogue, improve accountability, and develop evidence-based policies that address the real needs of residents.
